Project-Based Learning That Sparks Curiosity & Confidence

Hands-on, two-day-a-week classes and family experiences for TK–12th-grade homeschoolers across Central California.

At Project Learn we know children learn best when they do rather than simply listen. Our project-based approach braids math, science, literacy and the arts into real-world challenges, so every lesson feels alive, relevant and inspiring.

Our Community Speaks

My daughter races into class and comes home eager to teach us what she built. Project Learn reignited her love of learning.
Luis H., Parent & Math Teacher
Projects let my son connect math to everyday life. He’s gone from memorizing answers to owning the concepts.
Jayden R., 8th grader
I used to be shy. After leading our micro-business project I realized I can speak up and people listen.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Project Learn different from other programs?

Project Learn offers the best of both worlds: the structure of a traditional classroom setting paired with the flexibility and creativity of project-based learning. With a dedicated instructor for each grade level, our students benefit from consistency, personalized attention, and a rich academic experience. We foster a close-knit learning community where families feel supported, students are known and valued, and learning is designed to be meaningful, not rushed. Our focus is not only on academic mastery but also on character, collaboration, and curiosity.

We serve TK–12th grade students with a well-rounded academic program. Our instructors primarily use BookShark, a literature-based curriculum that fosters deep reading and discussion. However, we trust our teachers as professionals to thoughtfully curate additional resources tailored to their specific class needs. Our core classes include history, science, language arts, and math, with hands-on projects woven into instruction whenever possible. We also offer elective opportunities, field trips, and enrichment activities throughout the year that round out the educational experience.

Our typical class size averages around 20 students per instructor, allowing for individualized instruction, strong teacher-student relationships, and a focused classroom environment. This ratio supports both academic achievement and meaningful community building within each classroom.

We currently offer two weekly program options:

  • Tuesday/Thursday from 10-3 for TK–8th grade
  • Monday/Wednesday from 10-3 for TK–12th grade

Each program runs two days per week and is held at our central Bakersfield location. Our program hours are structured to provide consistency, engagement, and academic depth while still leaving room for at-home learning and family flexibility.

While we maintain a traditional academic structure with clearly defined subjects and classroom instruction, project-based learning is embedded into our approach wherever possible. Our instructors design units and experiences that allow students to apply what they’re learning to real-world contexts—such as researching and presenting historical events, conducting science experiments, or engaging in meaningful writing and presentations. We believe children learn best by doing, and PBL provides opportunities for critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity that complement and deepen our academic goals.
